EBRIDGE LOCK

On Sunday February 1st. Diana and I decided to visit the North Walsham and Dilham Canal again in slightly different weather conditions. This time we visited Ebridge Lock that stands across the road from Ebridge Mill and is the third lock up the canal. The mill still looks in very good condition and is still operating as a commercial mill.
Directly opposite the mill is the old mill pond which is on the edge of the canal and now very overgrown with reeds.

The only lock we saw with top gate

This was the only lock we visited that still has any sign of the top gates which still hold water better than some belonging to British waterways. Its a good job some one drew the paddle before they called it a day.
The paddle gear has the name of Cubitt cast into it. Below the name is what looks to be Walsh, whether this refers to some one else's name or North Walsham I could not say.

The name is quite visible still

Looking up the lock it looks in very good condition with the walls looking quite sound. Unlike Honing Lock this lock has stone copings on the top of the lock walls.

Looking downstream from the top of the bridge the mill yard can be seen on the right hand side with several lorries parked up..

The water was flowing much slower at this end of the canal
